For many police officers, shooting the annual firearms qualification is one of the most stressful activities that an officer has to endure. By law, police officers MUST qualify with their service pistols each year. If they can’t qualify, they can’t be police officers. As officers get older, their shooting skills tend to diminish. That adds stress to an already stressful shooting test. Some officers get totally stressed out and will do anything they can to pass the shooting test.
NOTE: I have always loved shooting. As a junior officer, I had no problems with shooting and annual qualifications. But, by the end of my career, I was struggling to get passing scores during my shooting tests. I experienced first hand the foreboding about qualification that I made fun of previously.
