Phoenix Police officers often make extra money working “off-duty” jobs on their days off. One of the off-duty jobs I enjoyed during the last part of my career was working at the annual Christmas Zoo Lights at the Phoenix Zoo. Working at Zoo Lights was enjoyable because the workload was lite and I got to be around old friends…including Commander Henry Cusson. Officer Paul Ellis was coordinator for this job and he assigned the nightly locations within the zoo where the officers would work. Somehow Paul always got the best locations in the zoo, while guys like me and Henry got the not-so-nice positions…. surprise, surprise.
NOTE: Paul is a good guy and I enjoyed working for him at the Phoenix Zoo. He has a great sense of humor and we always did a lot of laughing.
