Officer Joe Mason was a firearms instructor, driving instructor, defensive tactics instructor, and Taser instructor at the police academy. We worked together on the Tactical Training Unit. Even as advanced firearms instructors, we had to go through annual firearms qualifications like any other officers. One day while we were doing our qualification shoot, we got to the place in the shoot where you shoot at the target from a couple feet away. It was then that Joe accidentally punched his Glock pistol all the way through the target. We all saw it happen and thought it was hilarious. Joe had a good sense of humor and working with him made long hot days of training go easier because he was fun to be around.
