Booking prisoners into jail is a lengthy and tedious process. The paperwork involved in mind numbing. “R&I” stands for Records and Information. This is a police unit made up of mostly civilians who process paperwork electronically to the county jail. If an officer has errors in their paperwork, there is hell to pay. One of the biggest excuses that officers give when confronted by R&I about mistakes in their paperwork is, “I’m just the wagon.” Meaning: I’m being a good Samaritan by driving this prisoner to the jail. I didn’t make the arrest. I didn’t do the paperwork. I’m not to blame for the mistakes. Well, the ladies at R&I don’t put up with those excuses….The penalties are harsh.
