Having been an English teacher in Japan for several years, I really like Japanese food. There are several Asian grocery stores here in Phoenix that I like to shop at. One Saturday morning I rolled out of bed and drove directly to my favorite Asian market…bed head and all. As I stumbled through the snack food aisle half awake, I noticed a Japanese lady and her young child watching me. Then I heard the lady say something in Japanese to her son. She said “gai-jin,” which means foreigner.
