Several years ago there was a news story about a non-flying F-104 Starfighter having been stolen. The F-104 was the iconic front-line fighter of the USAF in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It was often referred to as a rocket with wings. How an F-104 was stolen is beyond me.
NOTE: There is still one F-104 Starfighter flying on the airshow circuit here in the USA.
